Sewing Classes and Workshops

Beginner Sewing Classes

Are you ready to learn how to sew with confidence?

My beginner sewing classes are perfect for complete beginners and those looking to refresh or build on their existing sewing skills. In a relaxed and supportive environment, you’ll learn the fundamentals of sewing while gaining the confidence to alter, repair and create your own projects.

During the class, I’ll guide you through essential sewing machine techniques, sewing kit essentials, tips for working with different fabrics, and beginner-friendly clothes alteration skills.

You’ll then put your new knowledge into practice by making a lined, reversible bag with pockets. This hands-on project introduces a variety of core sewing techniques and provides a solid foundation for future sewing, dressmaking, alteration and upcycling projects.

All materials are supplied, including fabric. You’re welcome to bring your own sewing machine or use one of mine during the class.

Clothes Upcycling Workshops

Upcycle, alter and refashion your clothes with confidence.

At my clothes upcycling workshops, you’ll learn a range of practical skills to help you get more from your wardrobe. I’ll show you beginner-friendly alteration and upcycling techniques, how to identify garments and fabrics that are easier to alter and refashion, and practical ways to improve the fit, comfort and functionality of your clothes.

You’ll also discover creative ideas for transforming existing garments into something new, learn how to use a sewing machine with confidence, and overcome common sewing challenges. Along the way, you’ll gain valuable techniques for extending the life of your wardrobe, reducing clothing waste, and making more sustainable fashion choices.

Join me for a creative, practical and inspiring workshop where you’ll gain the skills and confidence to reduce, reuse, recycle and refashion with purpose.

Clothes upcycling for sewers: These hands-on sewing machine workshops focus on beginner-friendly clothes alteration and upcycling techniques. You’ll learn how to take in, let out, reshape, repair and refashion garments to better suit your body, lifestyle and personal style. With a maximum of five attendees per workshop, you’ll receive plenty of individual guidance and support while working on your own upcycling projects.

No-sew clothes upcycling workshops: Not everyone wants to learn to sew, and that’s perfectly fine. These workshops explore practical and creative ways to improve the fit, appearance and functionality of clothing without using a sewing machine. You’ll discover simple techniques, tools and ideas that can transform garments and extend their lifespan. With a maximum of eight attendees, these workshops provide plenty of opportunities for discussion, inspiration and sharing ideas.

Clothing sustainability workshops: These workshops are ideal for anyone interested in reducing clothing waste and making more sustainable wardrobe choices. Together, we’ll explore the environmental impact of fast fashion, practical ways to care for and extend the life of your clothes, and how to identify garments that are ideal candidates for alteration, repair or upcycling. No sewing experience is required, and everyone is welcome.

Attendees are encouraged to bring along clothing they’d like to alter, upcycle or refashion. We’ll discuss ideas for as many garments as time allows before you begin working on your chosen projects with guidance throughout the workshop.

Sewing Machine Lesson

Learn how to use your sewing machine with confidence.

Have you got a sewing machine but are not sure how to use it correctly? This beginner-friendly sewing machine lesson is designed to help you build confidence and develop essential sewing skills.

Sewing is a valuable and creative skill, whether you want to make new garments, alter clothing, or repair your favourite pieces. My hands-on sewing machine classes will equip you with the knowledge and techniques needed to operate your sewing machine efficiently and safely.

Learn how to set up, thread, wind a bobbin, and adjust tension. Master straight stitching, pivoting at corners, and basic sewing principles. Troubleshoot and solve common sewing machine issues with confidence. Then, put your new skills to the test and we’ll sew a beginner-friendly, fully lined bag.  All materials are supplied, including fabric.  Bring along your own sewing machine or use one of mine.

Clothes Alteration Class

Elevate your wardrobe and learn how to tailor and alter clothes to fit.

At this clothes alteration workshop, I’ll cover how to tailor your clothes for a perfect fit and give them a fresh new look. Whether you want to alter, mend, or upcycle your garments, this class will equip you with the skills and confidence to transform your wardrobe.

Save money, reduce waste, and express your creativity.

In this workshop, I’ll cover practical alteration and upcycling ideas based on the garments you bring, which fabrics and clothing types are easiest to alter and sew, step-by-step techniques to adjust clothing for a better fit, and creative ways to refashion existing pieces into something fresh and new.

Attendees are encouraged to bring clothes they would like to alter or refashion. At the start of the class, we’ll discuss alteration ideas for as many items as time allows.  You’ll then have the opportunity to start working on your chosen alterations.

Dressmaking Courses

Learn how to make clothes that fit you perfectly.

Ready to move beyond simple sewing projects and start creating your own wardrobe? My small-group dressmaking courses are designed for confident beginners and intermediate sewers who want to learn garment construction, fitting and pattern adjustment techniques.

Unlike many sewing classes that focus on a single project, these hands-on dressmaking courses teach you the skills needed to make clothing that suits your body shape, style and preferences.

Each course focuses on a specific garment category, including tops, skirts, pants and dresses. You’ll learn how to read commercial sewing patterns, select suitable fabrics, adjust patterns for a better fit, cut fabric accurately and construct garments using professional sewing techniques.

With a maximum of three attendees per course, you’ll receive personalised guidance throughout the day and leave with new skills, greater confidence and a garment that’s uniquely yours.
