Have you just purchased or been given a sewing machine and don’t know where to start? Do you want to try sewing before investing in a sewing machine and the necessary equipment?

My sewing machine classes are perfect for beginners, novice sewers, and anyone wanting to reconnect with their sewing machine. The class moves at a steady pace to make sure you get the most out of your time and learn plenty of useful tips along the way.

If you don’t have a sewing machine, I have ones available for use.

Duration: 3 hours
Small classes: Maximum 6 people per class to ensure personalised attention.

Note: This class is held in conjunction with my beginner sewing class with each lesson complimenting the other.

Private classes: If the dates below don’t suit, I offer private sewing lessons at a time that suits you.

Sewing Machine Classes Sydney

Have you just purchased or been given a sewing machine and don’t know where to start? My sewing machine classes are perfect for beginners, novice sewers, and anyone wanting to reconnect with their sewing machine.

Sewing is a skill everyone can enjoy, whether it’s creating something new, altering existing garments, or mending your favourite pieces. My sewing machine workshops will inspire your creativity while building the confidence you need to work with your sewing machine – safely and efficiently.

The class runs at an engaging pace to ensure I cover lots of helpful tips and you learn as much as possible during the session.

All workshops have a maximum of 6 people to allow time for one-on-one attention.

In the class I’ll cover

Basic sewing machine operation: Get familiar with your sewing machine, including threading, bobbin winding, and adjusting tension.
Sewing techniques: From stitching straight lines to tackling corners, I’ll guide you through essential techniques to get started.
Troubleshooting tips: Learn how to handle common sewing machine issues.

During the class we will sew a reversible, lined bag with internal pockets. This project highlights a range of sewing techniques suitable for beginner sewers and important skills that form the foundations of basic sewing.

Sewing Machine

This is a hands-on class and attendees can bring their own sewing machine. If you don’t have your own sewing machine, I have ones available for use during the class.

Try sewing to see if you like it.

This lesson is the perfect way to try sewing without the upfront cost of purchasing a machine. I provide everything you need including a modern sewing machine, scissors, fabric, and accessories so you can focus on learning and having fun. It’s a great opportunity to see if sewing is something you’d like to pursue before buying your own equipment.

Duration and Cost

3 hours – $120 (includes GST).

If you’re an NDIS participant, you may be able to claim the cost of your sewing lessons under your plan. Speak with your support coordinator or plan manager to find out if it’s covered as part of your funding.

Attendees

Maximum: 6 people

This is a small, group class with a maximum of 6 people. This allows ample time for one-on-one attention allocated to each attendee.

* A minimum of 4 people are required for this class to proceed. If numbers aren’t reached, you can transfer to another date or apply for a fully refund.

Private lessons: If you prefer to learn without the distraction of other people, I offer private sewing and sewing machine classes.

Location

Classes and workshops are held at Frenchs Forest on the Northern Beaches, Sydney (near Northern Beaches Hospital). There is plenty of free, untimed street parking across the road from the workshop and a bus stop is within easy walking. After placing your booking, you’ll be sent the address, along with parking and other information.

Refreshments

Morning or afternoon tea will be available for attendees to enjoy. Unfortunately, we cannot cater to the specific dietary or allergy requirements of individual attendees.

Clothing Swap

The core purpose of Second Life Upcycling is to encourage recycling, repurposing, rethinking and reusing. With this in mind, feel free to bring along good quality clothes you would like to swap or give to other workshop attendees. This encourages a circular economy and ensures your clothes go to a good home and are kept out of landfill (hopefully).

Note: Any garments or accessories not taken by other workshop attendees will have to be taken home. I do not offer a recycling service.
