ABOUT THIS CLASS
How to make a cushion cover workshop
Ready to put your beginner sewing skills into practice? In this creative, hands-on class, you’ll choose and combine recycled fabrics to make an envelope cushion cover that suits your home and personal style.
You’ll measure and cut your fabric, work with thicker materials such as upholstery fabric, and sew a cover with a neat envelope opening. There’s no zip to install. You’ll also see how details such as tassels, piping, lace or ribbon can give future covers a different look.
This two-hour workshop is a great next step if you’ve attended a beginner sewing or sewing machine class, or if you’re returning to sewing and can already use a machine.
In this class, I’ll cover:
- Choosing and combining fabrics for a centre panel
- Measuring and cutting fabric for your chosen cover size
- Sewing with thicker fabrics
- Making a neat envelope opening
- Ways to add decorative details
- Adjusting the pattern to fit other cushion sizes
All fabric is supplied, with a wide range of recycled and donated fabrics to choose from. You’re welcome to bring the cushion insert you plan to use so you can check the fit.
You’ll take home your finished cover and an adaptable pattern to help you make more covers at home.

All fabric, sewing tools and materials are supplied. Please bring the cushion insert you plan to use so you can check the fit during class.
