Sewing Class Sydney – All ages and levels

sewing class sydney

Sewing classes, dressmaking, alteration and clothes upcycling workshops.

Are you curious about sewing but don’t know where to start? Maybe you’ve sewn before but want to refresh your skills, or perhaps you’re ready to level up and start making or altering your clothes. Whether you’re brand new to sewing, picking it up again after a break, or somewhere in between, my workshops and lessons offer something for everyone – kids, teens, adults and seniors.

My sewing classes

First-timers and beginner sewing classes.

If you’ve never used a sewing machine or stitched a hem, don’t worry, I’ve got you. My beginner sewing classes are relaxed, practical, and designed to help you feel comfortable and confident right from the start. You’ll learn how to operate a sewing machine, follow patterns, and create simple projects that build your skills and your confidence.

Try sewing without the upfront setup cost – If you’re not ready to invest in a sewing machine or tools just yet, my sewing classes are the perfect way to try sewing without the upfront cost. I provide everything you need including a modern sewing machine, scissors, fabric, and accessories – so you can focus on learning and having fun. It’s a great opportunity to see if sewing is something you’d like to pursue before buying your own equipment.

Learn how to use a sewing machine – Part of my beginner sewing class covers how to use a sewing machine. You’ll learn the purpose of each component, how to thread the machine correctly, wind and insert a bobbin, change needles, adjust stitch settings and sew safely and confidently. We’ll also cover common troubleshooting issues such as thread bunching, skipped stitches, broken needles and tension problems, so you understand not only how to operate your machine but how to solve simple problems when they arise. By the end of the class, you’ll feel comfortable setting up and using a sewing machine independently and have the confidence to continue practising at home.

Intermediate sewers and skill refreshers.

If you’ve already been sewing on your own but still feel unsure about certain techniques or want to fine-tune your approach, I’m here to help. Learn how to improve your sewing finishes, get tips on tricky construction methods, or gain confidence with zippers, darts, following a pattern, and more. These sessions are perfect for brushing up on old skills or learning new ones.

Learn dressmaking and sew your own wardrobe.

Ready to move beyond simple sewing projects and start making your own clothes? My dressmaking classes and courses teach you how to create garments that fit your body, suit your style and become lasting additions to your wardrobe.

Whether you want to learn how to sew dresses, pants, tops, or skirts, I’ll teach you how to take accurate body measurements, understand garment fit, read commercial sewing patterns and adjust patterns to suit your own measurements. These essential dressmaking skills provide the foundation for creating clothes that fit properly, flatter your shape and reflect your personal style.

With the knowledge and confidence gained in these classes, you’ll be well on your way to making your own handmade wardrobe.

My dressmaking classes are ideal for beginner and intermediate sewers.

Clothes upcycling and alteration workshops.

Bring new life to old favourites. Learn how to upcycle second-hand clothes or items from your own wardrobe and turn them into stylish, wearable garments. My clothes upcycling and alteration workshops focus on creativity, sustainability, and self expression.

You’ll learn alteration techniques that help clothes fit better and feel more like you.

If you prefer to start without sewing, I also offer no sew clothes upcycling workshops that show you quick, clever ways to restyle and extend the life of your clothes using simple tools and techniques.

Attendees are encouraged to bring clothes they would like to upcycle, alter or refashion. At the start of the class, I’ll discuss upcycling and alteration ideas for as many items as time allows, you’ll then have the opportunity to start working on your chosen alterations.

Kids sewing classes – where creativity starts.

My childrens sewing classes are the perfect introduction to creativity, coordination, and practical skills. Designed for children aged 8 and up, these fun, hands-on sessions teach kids how to safely use a sewing machine while making simple projects.

I keep things relaxed and age-appropriate, encouraging kids to express themselves while developing fine motor skills, patience, and focus. All materials are provided, and class sizes are small to ensure plenty of guidance and encouragement.

My kids sewing classes are a great way for children to try sewing before parents invest in the necessary equipment.  I provide everything needed for the class including a modern sewing machine, scissors, fabric, and accessories, so kids can focus on learning and having fun. It’s a great opportunity to see if sewing is something they’d like to pursue before buying your own equipment.

Teen sewing classes that build skills and boost confidence.

Teen sewing workshops are ideal for high school students interested in fashion, sustainability, or DIY style. Whether they’re complete beginners or already experimenting with their own projects, my sewing classes for teenagers help build real-world sewing skills including garment construction and upcycling to using patterns and sewing machine techniques.

It’s a great way for teens to explore their creativity, develop new skills, and even start building a handmade wardrobe. These sessions can also support school projects or personal goals.

Private sewing lessons

At my workshop

Do you prefer to learn one-on-one or have a specific project in mind? My private sewing classes and upcycling workshops are tailored to your needs, pace and goals. They’re an ideal environment to fast-tracking your progress or diving deep into specific techniques. These workshops are supportive, flexible, and designed just for you.

In your home

Would you love to learn to sew but find it difficult to attend group classes or my workshop location? Whether due to disability, health reasons, or simply feeling more comfortable in your own space, my in-home private sewing lessons are a personalised and practical way to begin (or continue) your sewing journey. We can use your sewing machine or I can bring one of mine.

These one-on-one sessions are tailored to your experience, pace and learning style. You’ll gain hands-on skills while working on a simple project that teaches the essential foundations of sewing. From understanding fabric and threading a machine to safely using sewing tools, I’ll guide you every step of the way.

To discuss your specific requirements, please contact me directly.

* If you’re an NDIS participant, you may be able to claim the cost of your sewing lessons under your plan. Please speak with your support coordinator or plan manager to see if it’s covered as part of your funding.

Sewing classes that suit your unique needs.

Small class sizes for maximum attention.

I deliberately keep my sewing classes small with a maximum of 5 people per class.  This is to ensure everyone receives plenty of one-on-one guidance. This ensures you have time to ask questions, get help when you need it, and enjoy a supportive learning experience.

Sewing machines supplied – or bring your own

If you don’t yet own a sewing machine, no problem, sewing machines are provided for all classes. It’s a great opportunity to try sewing before making the investment in your own machine. You’ll gain confidence using a modern machine and can decide what suits your needs before committing to a purchase. Already have a machine you love (or want help learning how to use)? Feel free to bring it along!

Flexible times to suit your schedule.

If our scheduled classes don’t quite fit into your calendar, I offer private lessons that can be arranged at a time and location that works best for you. Whether you prefer weekday mornings, evenings, or weekends, I’ll find a time that fits your lifestyle. Private sessions can be held at our sewing studio or a convenient location of your choice, making it easier than ever to learn on your terms.

Share the experience with family, friends or colleagues.

Want to share the experience with others? You can book a group session just for you and your friends, workplace or community organisation. These sessions are a fun, interactive way to bond, learn something new, and promote sustainability together. I offer both on-site and off-site workshops.

Convenient location

Classes are held at my sewing and clothes upcycling workshop in Frenchs Forest on Sydney’s Northern Beaches (near Northern Beaches Hospital).  Private lessons and groups workshops can be held throughout Sydney at a location of your choice.

Why sewing is great!

Sewing isn’t just about stitches and seams. It is a creative, mindful practice that’s good for your mental wellbeing. It encourages patience, focus and problem-solving, and provides a rewarding outlet for self-expression. It also empowers people to live more sustainably by repairing, altering and reusing clothing rather than buying new. Whether you’re creating from scratch or reworking what you already own, every stitch counts.

I hope to see you at one of my workshops soon.
