Private Sewing Lessons – Learn to sew in the comfort of your own home

private sewing lesson in home

In-home private sewing lessons. Perfect for beginners, homebodies, or anyone needing extra support.

Would you love to learn to sew but find it difficult to attend group classes or my workshop location? Whether due to disability, health reasons, or simply feeling more comfortable in your own space, my in-home private sewing lessons are a personalised and practical way to begin (or continue) your sewing journey. We can use your sewing machine or I can bring one of mine.

These one-on-one sessions are tailored to your experience, pace and learning style. You’ll gain hands-on skills while working on a simple project that teaches the essential foundations of sewing. From understanding fabric and threading a machine to safely using sewing tools, I’ll guide you every step of the way.

* If you’re an NDIS participant, you may be able to claim the cost of your sewing lessons under your plan. Please speak with your support coordinator or plan manager to see if it’s covered as part of your funding.

Safety is an important part of every lesson.

I’ll show you how to use your sewing machine safely and confidently, including how to thread it correctly, operate it smoothly, and avoid common mistakes that can lead to injury or frustration. Understanding the basics of machine safety sets you up for a more enjoyable and productive sewing experience.

Try sewing before investing in a sewing machine.

If you’re curious about sewing but not quite ready to invest in your own machine, my in-home lessons are a great way to try it first. I can bring everything you need to get started, including a sewing machine, tools, and materials, so there’s no need to buy anything upfront. It’s a low-pressure, practical way to see if sewing is something you enjoy before committing to any equipment.

Learn to alter and upcycle clothes.

My in-home private sewing lessons are a great opportunity to get help with clothes that don’t fit quite right. Bring them out during your lesson, and we can chat about how to alter, adjust, or upcycle them into something new. You’ll not only build sewing confidence, gaining practical knowledge that’s immediately useful.

ABOUT THIS CLASS

About my private sewing classes

Whether you’re completely new to sewing or looking to refresh your skills, in this hands-on, beginner sewing class, I’ll guide you through the basic foundations of sewing. After completing this interactive learn to sew class, you’ll be ready to start using your sewing machine with confidence and start altering and upcycling clothes – even make your own clothes.

Note: This class does not include pattern making. That is a more advanced skill.

In this class, I’ll cover
  • Basic sewing machine techniques
  • Tips for sewing different fabrics
  • Sewing kit essentials
  • The fundamentals of altering clothes

During the class we can sew a basic item like a cushion cover, drawstring bag, lined shopping bag or similar.  These sewing projects are designed to encompass a range of sewing techniques suitable for beginner sewers.

Alternatively, if you would like specialised guidance on a project you have been working on, this can usually be accommodated.

Sewing Machine

Bring your own sewing machine to get comfortable with your tools, or use one of the sewing machines available at my studio.
