ABOUT THIS CLASS
How to Make Clothes – Made-to-Measure Pants
Learn how to make clothes that fit your body and express your personal style.Â
Join me for this hands-on dressmaking workshop where you’ll learn how to create a made-to-measure pair of pants from a commercial sewing pattern. This practical sewing class is designed for people who already have basic sewing skills and want to develop their garment-making skills while achieving a better fit than ready-to-wear clothing.
Throughout the day, you’ll learn how to take body measurements, understand garment fit, work with sewing patterns and make pattern adjustments to create pants tailored specifically to your shape and measurements.
This workshop is the perfect progression for students who have completed a beginner sewing class or for anyone wanting to gain the confidence and skills needed to start making their own clothes.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have completed your own custom-fitted pants and developed a strong foundation in dressmaking techniques that can be applied to future garment projects.
Best of all, you’ll take home your adjusted sewing pattern, customised to your body shape and measurements. This personalised pattern can become the foundation for a wide variety of future pants, allowing you to confidently create additional garments with less fitting, less waste and more consistent results.
In this dressmaking class, I’ll cover:
- How to take accurate body measurements.
- Understanding garment fit and ease.
- How to read and follow a commercial sewing pattern.
- How to select the correct pattern size and make adjustments to improve fit.
- Adjusting the waist, hips, rise and leg width for improved comfort and fit.
- Understanding crotch depth and common pants fitting issues.
- How to sew waistbands, pockets and hems.
- Tips for achieving a professional finish.
- How to modify patterns to create different pant styles.
- Troubleshooting common fit and sewing issues.
