Beginner Sewing Class
Learn practical sewing skills you can use to make and alter clothes in my fun and hands-on sewing classes. Whether you’re a beginner sewer or want to refresh your skills, these classes offer a relaxed, fun and supportive environment designed to make learning enjoyable.
What’s covered in the class
- Basis sewing techniques
- How to use and set up a sewing machine
- Tips for sewing different fabrics
- Sewing kit essentials
- The fundamentals of altering clothes
During the class, we’ll make a reversible shopping bag that teaches you a wide range of foundation sewing skills and a wide range of techniques. All equipment, including fabric, is supplied. Bring your sewing machine or use one of mine.
Learn how to use a sewing machine
This class covers how to use a sewing machine. You’ll learn the purpose of each component, how to thread the machine correctly, wind and insert a bobbin, change needles, adjust stitch settings and sew safely and confidently. We’ll also cover common troubleshooting issues such as thread bunching, skipped stitches, broken needles and tension problems, so you understand not only how to operate your machine but how to solve simple problems when they arise. By the end of the class, you’ll feel comfortable setting up and using a sewing machine independently and have the confidence to continue practising at home.
Try sewing before buying your own equipment
If you’re curious about sewing but not quite ready to invest in your own machine, my sewing lessons are a great way to try it first. I supply everything you need including a sewing machine, tools, and materials, so there’s no need to buy anything upfront. It’s a low-pressure, practical way to see if sewing is something you enjoy before committing to any equipment.

Clothes alteration and upcycling workshops
Have clothes sitting in your wardrobe that don’t fit properly, need repairing, or simply aren’t your style anymore?
My clothes alteration and upcycling workshops are designed to help you transform garments you already own into pieces you’ll actually wear. Rather than throwing clothes away, you’ll learn practical techniques to resize, repair, alter and refashion them, extending their life and reducing textile waste.
Bring along a bag of clothes and I’ll provide personalised suggestions based on your items, skill level and goals. To ensure everyone receives plenty of individual attention, we typically focus on up to three garments per person during the workshop. Depending on the items you bring, you may learn how to shorten hems, take in seams, adjust waistbands, replace elastic, alter necklines, improve fit or completely transform a garment into something new.
These small-group workshops are suitable for people with basic sewing skills and provide plenty of opportunity for individual guidance. They are a fantastic way to build confidence, save money and create a wardrobe that better reflects your personal style.
What’s covered in the workshop
- Upcycling and alteration ideas tailored to the garments you bring
- How to identify garments that are suitable for alteration or upcycling
- Common clothing alterations and repair techniques
- Tips for working with different fabrics and garment types
- Ideas for transforming existing garments into something completely new
- Practical advice to improve garment fit and extend the life of your wardrobe
About the workshop

Dressmaking courses
Ready to move beyond basic sewing projects and start making clothes that fit?
My dressmaking courses are designed for people with basic sewing skills who want to learn how to create made-to-measure clothing using commercial sewing patterns. Each course focuses on a specific garment category, including tops, skirts, dresses and pants.
You’ll learn how to take accurate body measurements, choose the correct pattern size, understand finished garment measurements, identify common fit issues and make simple pattern adjustments so your finished garments fit your body properly.
Unlike many sewing classes that focus purely on construction, my dressmaking courses teach you how to understand fit. You’ll learn how to read the signs that indicate why a garment doesn’t fit and what adjustments are needed to achieve a better result.
With a maximum of three participants per course, there is plenty of opportunity for personalised guidance and one-on-one support. By the end of the day, you’ll leave with a finished made-to-measure garment, your adjusted sewing pattern and the skills to apply these techniques to future sewing projects.
